Why Reformer Pilates?

Hey Kali family!

Today, I want to share something that has become a transformative part of my life and that we’ve introduced here at the studio just for you: Reformer Pilates.

If you’ve been curious about the buzz surrounding Reformer Pilates or whether it can fit into your fitness routine, you’re in the right place. Spoiler alert: it complements just about everything!

I first stepped onto a reformer in my early 20s, seeking rehabilitation for a back injury. I’ll admit, I was a bit sceptical at first. But oh man, was I in for a surprise! Not only did it help alleviate my back pain (which still flares up occasionally), but it also introduced me to a whole new world of strength and body awareness.

The benefits of Reformer Pilates continue to amaze me. It’s the only thing that truly eases my back issues, and I couldn’t be more grateful. Beyond rehabilitation, it has empowered me to become stronger and more in tune with my body. I’m excited to share this treasure with my Kali community because I believe everyone deserves to experience these benefits and discover what their bodies are truly capable of.

So, what’s all the fuss about? The reformer is a machine designed to help align your body. We all know how easy it is to slip into poor posture or technique during workouts. Often, certain muscles take over, compensating for others, which can throw everything out of balance. But on a reformer? There’s no hiding! Every muscle is activated, quickly highlighting any weaknesses. This awareness enables you to work through those areas and improve your overall condition, fostering a deeper understanding of your body’s incredible capabilities—capabilities you may not have unlocked until now.

Pilates emphasises engaging your core and deep stabiliser muscles, leading to more efficient and safer movement. When we move optimally, it can change everything—from how we breathe to how we hold ourselves in yoga poses. You’ll be amazed at how a little alignment can make such a big difference!

There’s immense joy in witnessing how bodies move. While I love the creative freedom of vinyasa flow, there’s something incredibly satisfying about precision and awareness. There’s a time for fluidity and a time to refine our understanding of what’s happening inside.

One of my favourite moments in teaching is when students discover muscles they didn’t even know existed—it’s like a lightbulb moment! They begin to see the connections between what we do in Pilates and how it impacts other areas of their lives. Hearing stories of how they can run faster, lift heavier, or achieve deeper yoga poses because of Pilates truly warms my heart.
