5 Signs The Goddess Kali is Calling You

By Steph Wall

When Kālī comes calling, it's hard to miss it. Sometimes, the relationship between you and the goddess of destruction is one that you intentionally call on, but often, she calls you. So, how do you know when to say yes to this relationship?

My relationship with the Hindu goddess Kālī Ma started well before I had any name or understanding of her. I just knew a force was guiding me to more depth, meaning and presence in my life. That all sounds great, right? However, I had many beliefs, stories, attachments, and identities that kept me from living my true essence. Kālī maa, the great mother, gives tough love and rocks your very foundation, whether you like it or not, to show you that beyond your limitations, there is a way of being that isn't ego-led but heart-led.

As my life unfolded, I was tempted to call myself a victim, but the more I learned about Kālī , the more I saw Her guiding me towards these situations so I could overcome and learn from them. It wasn't easy, and it still isn't, but I can say with my whole heart that if you commit to a relationship with her, you will move into a more meaningful life where you remember your essence, your innate sense of belonging, your value and worth, all while having fun with life.

Here are signs Kali is calling.

  1. Whatever is happening in your life right now, you don't want it. Kālī gives you what you need, not what you want. Resistance to your situation indicates Kālī is knocking on your door. If you feel in control of your pain or want revenge, that's not Kālī. Kālī comes when you are on your knees when it feels like your whole world has fallen apart when all you know and love is gone. When you've lost hope and wonder what the point of moving on is, Kālī is with you. If this is how you feel right now, I know it's hard, but Kālī has to crack you so you are open enough to let her in.

  2. She feels intense. If you have a little hunch or inkling that Kālī is calling, she probably isn't. If what you feel is so intense you're unsure if you can handle it, Kālī is right there. She may call on you softly at first, but when she's there - you will know!

  3. The core of who you are is being challenged. Kālī is so powerful she rocks the very centre of you. If you don't know who you are or what you want, Kālī is likely there. You may question your decisions and beliefs; maybe you don't know where home is or the partner you want. The energy of Kālī isn't you having a breakup and feeling upset. Kālī makes you question everything you thought you knew.

  4. This doesn't feel quick. Chances are, if the goddess Kālī is in your life, it is because fundamental changes are needed. There is no quick fix for this. Perhaps what you're feeling, maybe it's rejection, dispair, worthless, invisible...these are probably feelings you've felt for some time. Remember that Kālī challenges your beliefs and identities; this is more than just an acute feeling of hurt; this is something rocking your core.

  5. You keep seeing or hearing her name or coming across her image. You might even have stumbled across a yoga studio named after her! When Kālī is calling, she will make her presence known. You'll either be drawn to her or repulsed by her. Either reaction is an indication for you to look deeper.

If you really feel like Kālī is calling you, I imagine you're in an intense place. Stay with it. This is a long-term relationship that will guide you to a new opening in your life. The more you resist, the harder this will be. So let go, surrender, and trust that there is a powerful force holding you carefully.
