The Benefits of Hot Yoga

We are so excited to be now offering hot yoga! Our hot yoga classes are just like the flows you experienced in our main room, the Creator, but with infrared heat. Our room will be around 32°C, a wee bit less than, say, Bikram Yoga or Hotpod Yoga. We heat our room to 32°C for no reason other than it's our favourite temperature to practice in. Here are some of the main points to practicing hot yoga.

  1. Increased Flexibility: The heat in the room can help warm up muscles and improve flexibility, making it easier to achieve deeper stretches and poses.

  2. Detoxification: Sweating profusely during hot yoga can aid in the removal of toxins from the body through the skin.

  3. Improved Circulation: The heat causes blood vessels to dilate, leading to increased blood flow and potentially improved cardiovascular function.

  4. Enhanced Strength and Endurance: The challenging nature of hot yoga can help build strength and endurance, as it often involves holding poses for longer durations.

  5. Stress Reduction: Like all forms of yoga, hot yoga incorporates mindfulness and breathing techniques, which can help reduce stress and promote relaxation.

  6. Weight Loss: The combination of physical exertion and elevated temperatures can lead to increased calorie burn, potentially supporting weight loss goals.

  7. Mental Clarity and Focus: Practicing yoga in a heated room requires concentration and focus, which can translate to improved mental clarity and mindfulness.

  8. Joint Health: The warmth can make joints more pliable, reducing the risk of injury and potentially benefiting those with joint-related issues.

  9. Improved Skin Health: Increased blood circulation and sweating can lead to a healthy glow and improved skin health for some individuals.

  10. Sense of Achievement: Completing a hot yoga session, particularly in a heated room, can give practitioners a sense of accomplishment and boost self-confidence.

It's essential to approach hot yoga with care, as it's only for some. We lovingly caution our hot yoga classes to the following:

  1. Pregnant Women: We advise pregnant women to be cautious, especially in the first trimester, due to the risk of overheating and dehydration. Elevated body temperature during pregnancy can be harmful to the developing fetus.

  2. Individuals with Heart Conditions: People with heart conditions, hypertension, or cardiovascular issues should be careful with hot yoga. The elevated heat and intensity of the practice can place extra strain on the heart and may be unsafe for those with existing heart problems.

  3. Those with Respiratory Issues: Hot and humid environments can be challenging for individuals with asthma or other respiratory conditions. The heat and increased humidity can exacerbate breathing difficulties.

  4. Dehydrated Individuals: Hot yoga can lead to significant sweating, which may cause dehydration if not properly managed.

  5. Heat Sensitivity: Individuals who are sensitive to heat or prone to heat-related illnesses should be cautious with hot yoga.

  6. Recent Injuries or Surgeries: If you have recently experienced an injury or undergone surgery, consult with your healthcare provider before attempting hot yoga. The heated environment and challenging poses could potentially worsen the injury or interfere with the healing process.

We ask that you be sensible when practicing with us! Drink plenty of water, eat well and have what you need to be comfortable, like a towel. We are so excited for you to join us; we hope to sweat with you soon!
